The application for Google's 2020 CS Research Mentorship Program (CSRMP) is now open for students to apply. CSRMP aims to attract undergraduate students and retain graduate students from underrepresented groups in computing research pathways by matching them with peers and a Google mentor.

Students in parallel academic stages and research areas are grouped into virtual mentorship pods. Pods work toward a goal shared by each student, supported by the Google mentor through group and one-on-one meetings. Students are invited to virtual career panels, tech talks and information sessions about computing research opportunities from institutions and organizations across the field.

The mentorship cycle runs for twelve weeks during the academic year (January-April 2021) with a minimum time commitment of ten hours per student.

Eligibility

The target audience for CSRMP is students from underrepresented groups who would gain value that they otherwise would not have access to by collaborating with a mentor and peers in computing research. Students must meet the following requirements at the time of application:

  • Active enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting program in computer science (or an adjacent field) in the United States or Canada for the full duration of the mentorship cycle
    • Includes community college students and students obtaining a minor in computer science (or an adjacent field)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a four point scale, or equivalent)

We encourage you to communicate this opportunity to students in your network. Also, if you work with others who may know of student groups that would be interested in taking part, feel free to forward this email along to them.

Full information on CSRMP can be found on our website. If you have any questions, please feel free to reply here directly.
