The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking to recruit an outstanding Staff Scientist to provide analysis of existing NIH and publically available datasets.  Analyses will focus on health disparities and minority health with specific emphasis on Latinos, tobacco use and risk behaviors.

The Pérez-Stable intramural Minority Health and Health Disparities laboratory centers on interdisciplinary research collaboration aimed at examining readily available data to address issues pertaining health disparities and minority health. The Pérez-Stable laboratory sits within the Cardiovascular-Pulmonary Branch. Scientific interactions occur frequently among a wide range of independent research groups, therefore providing the incumbent with exceptional opportunities for collaboration within and outside of the NIH.

Current investigators in the NHLBI DIR are an outstanding group of internationally recognized biomedical researchers covering a wide range of basic and clinical research topics (please see https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/research/intramural) complemented by the other research institutes within the DIR (please see http://www.nih.gov/science/#campus).

The successful applicant is expected to establish a data management plan, analyze previously collected data, and provide summaries of the results for dissemination through fact sheets, white papers, and scholarly articles. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of descriptive epidemiology, data management, and evaluation methodology within the field of minority health and health disparities, as evidenced by training and publications in peer reviewed journals.  Additionally, the candidate has excellent oral and written communication skills that allows for effective interaction with both technical and lay audiences.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in epidemiology or in a closely related field with at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience.  Salary is commensurate with research experience, training, and accomplishments.

Appointees may be US citizens, resident aliens, or non-resident aliens with or eligible to obtain a valid employment authorized visa. Applications from women, minorities and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged.

Interested individuals should email a 1-2 page cover letter describing research interests and professional accomplishments, curriculum vitae, and names and contact information for three references to:
