Multiple graduate student positions (MS and PhD) are available within the Department of Environmental Sciences (http://www.evsc.virginia.edu/) at the University of Virginia. The Department of Environmental Sciences conducts research and offers instruction in the areas of Ecology, Geoscience, Hydrology, and Atmospheric Science. This unique integration of various earth sciences and ecology within a single, academic department offers students an opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research and understand scientific processes and problems related to the environment.
Admitted students who show acceptable progression in their academic work are guaranteed full funding for their degree (2 years for MS and 5 years for PhD). This support is comprised of a mixture of teaching and research assistantships that together provide highly competitive student stipends ($26,000/yr), tuition, and health insurance coverage.

The University of Virginia graduate school application deadline (http://graduate.as.virginia.edu) is January 15, 2019, for enrollment in the Fall of 2019. Those interested in applying are encouraged to contact faculty they are interested in working with in advance and provide a brief description on their background and motivation.

For more information, please visit the Graduate School’s website athttp://gsas.virginia.edu. There you will find information about the distinct benefits of graduate student life in Charlottesville, programs to support research and conference travel, opportunities for placement assistance and professional development across a broad spectrum of careers, and our resource center for teachers at all levels of experience.
