Excelente oportunidad postdoctoral para individuos interesados en el area de terapia genica ocular. La Universidad de la Florida es muy reconocida en esta area a nivel nacional.

I wanted to draw your attention to a two year postdoctoral position that has recently become available in the Retinal Gene Therapy Group (RGTG) here in the Department of Ophthalmology. The applicant will work directly under Dr. Christine Kay, a vitreo-retinal surgeon in our department and will be part of an established team of researchers in the RGTG.  Dr. Kay is a devoted clinician with a deep interest in inherited retinal disease research. During her protected research time, she is developing and optimizing a gene therapy for CNGB3 achromatopsia. While in clinic, she characterizes patients for potential enrollment in an upcoming clinical trial for this disease. The applicant will primarily develop basic science skills with our retinal gene therapy group, but will also have some exposure to translational research and clinical trial methodology. Emphasis will be placed on fostering career-enhancing activities including development of basic science skill sets, publications, presentations, journal club participation, and grant writing.  Opportunities for teaching, translational research, and clinical exposure exist.

Prerequisites include completion of an approved doctoral program, a strong basic science skill set, knowledge of vision science and a strong interest in retinal gene therapy. A record of independent research documented through publications and discoveries is preferred. Background in eye physiology, cell biology, genetics, and translational science will be helpful.

Research will include: ocular injection techniques in mouse models, behavioral assessment methodology including retinal electrophysiology and optomotry, and evaluation of vector transduction including fundus imaging, optical coherence tomography, immunohistochemistry, western blot, and confocal microscopy. Experience in these methodologies is desirable.

Interested candidates should send their CV, statement of research interests, representative publication(s), and the names, telephone numbers, and email addresses of three references to: Christine Kay, MD; Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, Director Clinical Research Vitreoretinal Division, and Director of Electrophysiology Service, University of Florida; PO Box 100284, Gainesville, FL, 32610-0284; email:  ckay@ufl.edu; 352-273-8793. Fax: 352-273-7402.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
