The main goal of the Neuroscience Research Program, a Scientific Caribbean Foundation Initiative, is to encourage pre-college research, develop student’s written and oral communication skills, and provide a forum in Puerto Rico for students to foster interest in undergraduate and graduate education, particularly in the STEM-C fields. Historically, students who stated their scientific research experience in early stages are more likely to aspire to the highest levels of personal education (Ph.D., M.D.)

During the academic semester of August to December 2019, the selected participants will have a minimum of 60 contact hours to develop a research project under the mentoring of experienced undergraduate and graduate researchers from partner institutions. During this period, the participants will learn about the scientific method, critical thinking, and learn first-hand research techniques from experienced research mentors. How to prepare a research abstract and a Poster, or an oral presentation and the programs will include ethics in research.

For a period of 16 Saturdays the student participant will:

  • Learn / develop research skills
  • Develop / polish their writing and oral communication skills
  • Learn to prepare competitive presentations
  • Work as a team member
