How does movement of fungi by wind and birds shape fungal communities and plant disease dynamics at the coffee-forest interface in southern Costa Rica?
The Aldrich-Wolfe Lab at North Dakota State University is recruiting a graduate student for a Master’s or Ph.D. project examining movement of fungi by wind and birds and fungal plant diseases in coffee and forest in Costa Rica. Our ideal candidate would have prior expertise in mistnetting birds, be Spanish-English bilingual and passionate about studying fungal communities in agroecosystems in the tropics. Combined research/teaching assistantship is $20,000 per year for two years and includes a tuition waver. The project entails a commitment to living for 5-6 months at a field station in Costa Rica, costs of which are covered by a separate stipend. Anticipated start date is January 2, 2021.
Applicants are requested to submit as a single pdf the following: 1) half-to-one-page statement of interest; 2) curriculum vitae, 3) unofficial transcripts, 3) names and contact information for three references, to Dr. Laura Aldrich-Wolfe (laura.aldrichwolfe@ndsu.edu). Review of applications will begin on August 1, 2020. Please contact Dr. Aldrich-Wolfe via email for additional details. Members of underrepresented groups in the sciences are especially encouraged to apply.
