USRA engages the creativity and authoritative expertise of the research community to develop and deliver sophisticated, forward-looking solutions to Federal agencies and other customers - on schedule and within budget.

USRA is seeking a Project Specialist in the Planetary Radar Astronomy department studying near-Earth asteroids and other bodies with the Arecibo Observatory Planetary Radar system. This position would involve observations, data processing, and archiving of near-Earth asteroids and other bodies with the Arecibo Planetary radar system.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Processing of radar data using existing software.
Along with the computing staff at the observatory, developing and maintaining software for processing of new data formats.
Managing an archive of radar data and keeping an off-site backup updated.
Maintaining statistics of radar observations and results.
Making scientific observation of planets and asteroids using the Planetary Radar System.
Training users in the operation of the Planetary Radar System.
Maintaining a public web page highlighting current radar observations.

Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences or engineering.
Coursework or experience in data analysis is a plus.
Experience and interest in astronomical observations is desirable.
Experience with radar observations and techniques are desirable.
Ability to work on an irregular schedule including weekends and holidays.
