Funding & Fellowships
Greetings Colleagues, Please encourage graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to apply for the Summer Program in Neuroscience Ethics & Survival (SPINES). This successful program, funded by NIMH and offered at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA, has contributed to the professional development of graduate students and postdocs for over 20 years. The course consists of lab work, lectures/discussions on professional skills and a variety of important topics in neuroscience research, and it offers students unrivaled opportunities to network with neuroscientists from around the world who spend the summer working at the MBL. It has a very distinguished faculty and many former students view their time in SPINES as a transformative experience in their careers. SPINES is open to all, but we especially encourage applications from individuals from underrepresented minority groups, from economically or socially disadvantaged backgrounds, and individuals with disabilities. This is a full fellowship program: all costs of attending the course, including travel, housing, and meals at MBL are covered. Please visit iBioMagazine for short clips featuring some former SPINES students on "Why I Do Science": http://ibiomagazine.org/issues/november-2011-issue/mbl-participants.html A nice video summary of the MBL is on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QKUBiBDXmMg The deadline for submission of applications has been extended to February 17, 2012. A flyer is attached; more information and applications can be found at: http://www.mbl.edu/education/courses/special_topics/spines.html -------------------------- James G. Townsel, Ph.D. and Keith A.
