A spring with Seeds of Success

Three months ago we kicked off our first chapter of Semillas de Triunfo outside of Puerto Rico: Seeds of Success in the city of New Haven in Connecticut.

Since then the participating girls have had many learnings, particularly exploring science through our collaboration with Yale University.

This spring they tested their clinical skills as well as learned from experts in the medical field. With a group of medical students and physicians from Yale School of Medicine, the girls had hands-on experience with suturing, intubation on a mannequin and ultrasound. Through lectures they learned from biomedical researcher Rachel Perry, physicist Cristina Rodríguez, and renowned Mexican neurosurgeon Alfredo Quiñones Hinojosa. They also participated in coding workshops, explored engineering concepts and visited an exhibition on the brain curated by Puerto Rican neuroscientist Daniel Colón Ramos at the Yale Peabody Museum.
