FREE workshop: Linking Tobacco Control Policies and Practices to Early Cancer Endpoints

Linking Tobacco Control Policies and Practices to Early Cancer Endpoints: Surveillance as an Agent for Change Co-sponsored by AACR, ACS, NCI, and CDC, this free one-day workshop will bring together tobacco control researchers and surveillance experts, cancer registration experts, mathematical modelers, and new users of tobacco control and cancer surveillance data to:  Summarize what has been done to relate surveillance of tobacco control policies and other environmental interventions to outcome measures.  Discuss new ways to assess how interventions at the state and regional levels can be linked to early disease outcomes.  Identify summary indices that best reflect competing influences of tobacco control programs/policies and industry promotion/marketing at the state and regional levels.  Identify gaps in tobacco control and cancer surveillance, problems in modeling their association, and other barriers that constrain research in this area.  Communicate the value of tobacco control policy intervention research to the broader scientific cancer prevention community.  Build enthusiasm for leveraging the body of tobacco control policy research to serve as a prototype for applying similar methodologies to other cancer risk factors and disease prevention measures in the future.
