This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), Division of Vector-Borne Diseases (DVBD), Dengue Branch, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The primary languages spoken in San Juan, Puerto Rico are English and Spanish. While not required, proficiency in both the English and Spanish language is desired.

Salary may be adjusted to include a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) of 4.20% for San Juan , Puerto Rico.

Additional selections may be made within the same geographical location HHS-wide.

DUTIES:
As a Research Entomologist you will:

• Plan, design, and execute research studies on the ecology and control of mosquitos that transmit dengue and other arthropod-borne viruses
• Perform laboratory and field work with arbovirus vectors, especially dengue (DENV) and West Nile (WNV) vectors
• Resolve research problems using novel concepts and approaches that are used to extend accepted approaches
• Serve as an expert researcher, authority, and consultant on research projects having extensive impact on national agency research programs to achieve progress in Aedes vector surveillance and control
• Serve as subject matter expert to state health and local health and mosquito control agencies, to relevant private sector entities and to international partners.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Applicants must have successfully completed a full four-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in entomology; or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology.

B. Applicants must have a combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major that included course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in planning, designing, and executing research studies on the ecology and control of arthropod-borne viruses.
