SURF provides funds for undergraduate research assistants from underrepresented groups to work in SCGB-funded laboratories during the academic year under the mentorship of postdoctoral fellows or graduate students who will provide personalized guidance. This year’s opportunities are located in Atlanta, the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Cold Spring Harbor, London, Los Angeles, New York City, San Diego, Seattle and Vienna.
SURF fellows will receive a commitment of $25 per hour wage for 10 hours per week over 30 weeks, administered through the hosting laboratory. In addition to financial support, SCGB facilitates meetings among fellows and mentors, provides access to professional development opportunities including a computational boot camp, and arranges an end-of-year research symposium for fellows to share their work. Awards will begin in the fall 2022 academic semester.
