Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum (NMNH) is currently recruiting a Latino Community Organizer to support efforts to strengthen relationships between NMNH and Latino communities across the D.C. metropolitan area. The Organizer will work with museum staff and Latino community leaders to assist in creation of content and public programs related to the exhibition Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World for Latino communities of the D.C. metropolitan area. The Organizer will act as a liaison facilitating close working relationships to accomplish the following objectives:
- Facilitating the creation and installation of Outbreak DIY exhibits at public venues.
- Recruiting museum internships for students.
- Promoting NMNH programs to the Latino community.
- Assisting NMNH staff on developing and implementing programs that are bilingual and culturally appropriate, both for Outbreak and school, youth, family, and adult programs.
Ideally the candidate is a D.C.-area resident, is bilingual, and has a background in science and/or public health. Other important qualifications include being an active organizer in their community, an excellent communicator, highly organized and a resourceful problem solver. Deadline for proposals is March 1.
