Full-time positions are open for Research Assistants in the Plant Molecular Biology Laboratory of Department of Biology at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez beginning immediately. Individuals will be hired on contract basis funded by an external grant. The Special Appointments will be extended depending on the funds available and does not constitute a regular or permanent job.
Minimum Requirements: The individual should have a B.S. degree or a M.S. degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field. The Research Assistants should be in possession of a valid driver’s license due to the frequent need for travel to field sites.
Special Requirements: The individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office software as well as have good written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
Duties: The basic responsibilities of the Research Assistant will be to transfer plants from in vitro conditions to soil, planting in the field and harvesting, gather data from field growing plants, agricultural maintenance of the plants in the field and excellent record keeping, molecular analysis of plants and maintenance of in vitro germplasms. Experience in Molecular Biology will be an added advantage. Other responsibilities include training of research students and providing administrative services to the laboratory.
