1. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: WORKSHOP ON BUILDING RESEARCH CAPACITY FOR UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES IN ENGINEERING

Apply today to be part of a groundbreaking dialogue taking place October 30-Nobember 1! Who’s not at the Table? Building Research Capacity for Underserved Communities in Engineering is an NSF sponsored working conference brings together experts from around the country to develop a national research agenda for broadening engineering participation by persons self-identifying as: having disabilities, veterans, low income/first-generation persons and persons of LGBTQ+ identity. The 1 & 1/2 day working conference at Clemson University to “bring to the table” leading researchers, scholars, and practitioners to take part in a dialogue about broadening participation in engineering (NSF grant #1551605). An optional reception will be held Sunday evening10/30/16. The conference will take place all day Monday 10/31and until lunch on Tuesday 11/1.

Participants must apply and be selected to attend. A short application may be submitted electronically at https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/blaser/290968. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed for participants. Lodging and meals will be provided.

The application deadline is August 1, 2016.

Together, we will tackle difficult questions like:

  • What theories, critical questions and methodologies can promote intersectional research in engineering education?
  • How do current methodological decisions reproduce marginalization of underrepresented and underserved students?
  • How does the nature of funding agencies influence what is done in engineering education research?
