The Yale University Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning is currently hiring for an Associate Director position on the Teaching Development and Initiatives (TDI) team with teaching expertise in quantitative fields. Equity in teaching is a primary focus for our team, and this hire would support these efforts in quantitative Social Science and STEM fields. Significant experience teaching and/or leading professional development initiatives in higher education is required. The person in this position will work in collaboration with the TDI team and others on campus to promote effective and equitable teaching practices, facilitate utilization of CIRTL (Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning) resources on campus, and develop supports for faculty, graduate students, and postdocs teaching in quantitative fields at each stage of their teaching career. Through consultations, facilitated discussions and workshops, grants funding, and web resource development, the person in this position will support the Poorvu Center’s work to build a shared community for teaching and learning at Yale. The person in this position will also contribute to and benefit from the supportive and collegial work environment of the TDI team and the Poorvu Center and will have opportunities to shape our collective work culture. The center provides resources for professional development and the TDI team supports each other through collective sharing of expertise and resources. The Poorvu Center’s mission to promote teaching and learning is rooted in a culture that prioritizes equity, accessibility, and the growth of each team member. We care for one another as professionals and human beings. We value the perspectives of individuals from diverse backgrounds, experiences, identities, and expertise. And we support one another in learning from our failures as much as our successes. Please include a cover letter and CV to apply for this position. The interview process for this position will involve three stages, including a self-recorded response to a set of questions, a mock syllabus consultation on Zoom, and an in-person workshop and interview. Our hope would be for someone to start in this position in the spring of 2026. For transparency, the targeted salary range for this will be $90-100K. Please apply by August 31st to ensure your consideration for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Work to enact the goals and priorities of the Poorvu Center and the TDI team

  • Facilitate regular teaching discussions and workshops that emphasize community, development, and sharing pedagogical practices

  • Evaluate and collaboratively update offerings to support the teaching development needs of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students in quantitative fields

  • Conduct confidential individual teaching consultations and classroom observations

  • Develop web resources to support effective and equitable teaching practices at Yale and beyond

  • Assist in the dissemination of grant funding programs to support effective classroom instruction and other institutional priorities

  • Establish working relationships with departments, Poorvu staff, and other campus groups to understand faculty, postdoc, and graduate student needs and resources

  • Stay current in the educational literature, particularly as it relates to teaching and learning quantitative literacy skills

  • Identify areas of personal growth and needs and support the professional growth of the team

  • Contribute to effective team dynamics and communication

Required Education and Experience:

  • Significant experience teaching or leading professional development initiatives in higher education

  • Deep familiarity with the educational literature, particularly as it related to the teaching and learning of quantitative literacy skills

  • Ability to have confidential and non-evaluative consultations with instructors that promote reflection about teaching and learning.

  • Strong commitment to collaboration and collegial interactions. An understanding of the higher education teaching context.

  • Strong commitment to professional development and reflective practice, including being open to feedback.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Personal and professional commitment to equity and inclusion.

  • Ability to work in person at the Poorvu Center. While general availability must be for five days per week, the Poorvu Center and Yale has a flexible work schedule that currently allows for up to two days per week to be remote as work responsibilities allow.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • PhD or other terminal degree in a STEM or Social Science field

  • Experience talking with instructors, formally or informally, about teaching and learning and/or issues of equity

  • Experience leading interactive and discussion-based sessions

  • Significant experience designing and creating professional development in the higher education context

Defining Aedes aegypti density thresholds for preventing human arboviral infections

Roberto Barrera
Effective control of local dengue virus transmission requires reducing the population of mosquitoes below a critical density threshold. Aedes aegypti density thresholds can serve as targets for intervention effectiveness. Most thresholds have been identified by correlating vector densities with pathogen transmission events. However, despite previous descriptive research there is a need for rigorously controlled field studies to clarify the interactions between Ae. aegypti density and human...

Protocol for evaluating the impact of non-coding variants on transcription factor binding and gene expression

Edwin G Peña-Martínez
Non-coding variants can alter transcription factor (TF)-DNA binding and dysregulate gene expression. Here, we present a protocol for evaluating the impact of non-coding variants on TF binding and gene expression. We describe steps for expressing and purifying DNA-binding proteins, preparing DNA probes and reporter constructs, and measuring changes in TF-DNA binding affinity. Finally, we provide instructions for quantification and statistical analysis. For complete details on the use and...

Tonsils and Sleep-Disordered Breathing: An Analysis of Symptom Screening and Tonsillar Inflammation as Performed by Dental Providers

1 week 5 days ago
Elizabeth Rosellini
Tonsillectomies traditionally have been used as the first line of treatment for children with sleep-disordered breathing. The purpose of the research presented in this article is to determine the effectiveness of this surgical procedure and compare it to children that have not had such surgery. A sample comprised 9,317 subjects, of which 537 had tonsillectomies and 8,780 did not have tonsillectomies. The study analyzed: (1) the effectiveness of the tonsillectomies regarding the elimination of...
